FDA Expands Recall of Abbott Baby Formula | Tim Miles Law Office

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced an expansion of its recall of certain Abbott Laboratories baby formulas. The expanded recall now includes all remaining powder formula products made by the company.

This comes after initial reports of babies becoming ill after consuming the formula. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. In some cases, hospitalization has been necessary.

The FDA is urging parents not to use these products and to contact Abbott Laboratories for a refund or replacement. They are also advising parents to watch for symptoms in their infants and seek medical attention if they occur.

In the latest case, the baby who consumed Similac PM 60/40 formula became infected with  PseCronobactersakazakii and died, the FDA said, pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. The infant was hospitalized for three days and is now home and recovering.

This recall expansion comes just a few months after Abbott Laboratories issued a voluntary recall of certain Similac powder formulas due to the possibility of them being contaminated with beetles or beetle larvae.
